The West Bengal government released a set of guidelines on Thursday regarding the protection, safety, and effective operation of medical personnel. The guidelines state that the orders must be followed right away. The orders were issued the day after the government met with junior doctors who were upset about the same problems.
In a two-page email from Chief Secretary Manoj Pant to Principal Secretary (Health) NS Nigam, the orders emphasised the importance of "adequate availability of on-duty rooms, washrooms, CCTVs, and drinking water facilities in healthcare facilities."
One of the ten directives said that the works in this regard have to be finished as soon as feasible.
The order was given only hours after junior doctors in the state of West Bengal sent a draft of the main issues of their meeting with the government and were waiting on a response from the state to Pant.
Additionally, it said that all hospitals and medical institutions will have their security assessments carried out by former DGP Surajit Kar Purkayastha, who was chosen by the state.
The guideline states that every instruction must be followed right away.
Meanwhile, the protesting junior doctors in West Bengal will resume work from Saturday, the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front, which is spearheading the agitation over the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor, announced on Thursday.
