The High-level Committee constituted by the Education Ministry to reform the National Testing Agency (NTA), has sought suggestions, views and ideas from all the stakeholders including parents, students and teachers. The panel headed by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Former Chairman of ISRO, was established on June 22 amid the row over irregularities in the exams conducted by NTA. The committee will review various facets of NTA's examination mechanism, including the security protocol, structure and functioning of the controversy-ridden body.
Suggestions to the high-level committee can be submitted between June 27 to July 7, 2024. To submit the suggestion, the Education Ministry has mandated a URL under Innovate India.
Anyone can submit their ideas on three key themes, the webpage noted. These key areas are -
-Reforms in the mechanism of the examination process
-Improvement in data security protocols
-Structure and functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA)
"Comprising members from government organizations, academia, and higher educational institutions, the committee aims to recommend reforms in the examination process, enhance data security protocols, and review the structure and operations of the National Testing Agency (NTA)," the Ministry of Education posted on X.
The formation of the high-level panel came after a huge row erupted country-wide against the malpractices in the NEET-UG 2024 exam conducted by NTA. The agency further faced the ire of the public over the cancellation of the UGC-NET 2024 exam, after it was learnt that the exam got leaked on Darknet. Following the allegations of paper leaks and rampant irregularities, the centre ousted the NTA chief Subodh Kumar.
Earlier today, the Tamil Nadu assembly passed a resolution, asking the centre to abolish the NEET medical entrance exam. The legislature demanded that the state should have the right to conduct the medical colleges' admission based on the score of students in class 12.
