The Champai Soren-led government in Jharkhand is set to undergo a crucial floor test in the state assembly today to establish its majority. Governor CP Radhakrishnan will kick off proceedings with an address at 11 am, followed by Chief Minister Champai Soren's motion to prove his majority.

The Jharkhand assembly, comprising 81 members, requires a minimum of 41 votes to secure a majority. Champai Soren, who assumed office after the arrest of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate, aims to demonstrate his coalition's strength.

Ahead of the floor test, BJP attacked the JMM government in the state, and state BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo expressed concerns over Jharkhand's reputation, highlighting the tumultuous events surrounding Hemant Soren's arrest and resignation.

"Whatsoever the result of the confidence motion, one thing is clear that Jharkhand has lost. The way Jharkhand was humiliated in front of the national and international community is absolutely shocking. A CM was a fugitive on the run for 40 hours without any trace, without any contact with the top officials of the state. The people of the state were left at their own mercy and the way the CM was accused of Rs 70,000 crore corruption, he had to step down, he was then arrested," Pratul Shah said.

The ruling alliance, primarily led by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), had safeguarded its legislators in a Hyderabad resort to prevent potential poaching attempts. Ahead of the floor test, these MLAs returned to Ranchi on Sunday evening.

Champai Soren earlier had claimed the support of 43 MLAs in the assembly. The opposition, led by the BJP-led NDA has 29 MLAs, including 26 from the BJP and 3 from the AJSU.
