Early Life Of Champat Rai
Champat Rai was born in 1946 in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district. After completing his higher education in Physics, he began his career as a physics lecturer at a degree college in Dhampur. During his student days, he became associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and eventually left his teaching position to dedicate himself to organisational work as a full-time 'pracharak', Jagran.com reported.
Role In VHP And Ram Janmabhoomi Movement
Champat Rai subsequently joined the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), where he held several key responsibilities over many years. During the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, he became a key figure in shaping the VHP's strategies, handling legal coordination, and managing documentation. He coordinated between saints, social organisations, and legal teams throughout the various phases of the movement. He is also credited with playing a key role in gathering historical documents and evidence related to the Ayodhya dispute.
Appointment To The Temple Trust And Role
Following the Supreme Court's landmark decision, the central government formed the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on February 5, 2020. Champat Rai was elected General Secretary at the Trust's first meeting.
In this role, he led the temple's construction, fundraising campaigns, administrative operations, and construction-related arrangements. As General Secretary, Champat Rai is responsible for overseeing the construction and various related tasks.
He is recognised as an experienced and influential strategist throughout the journey from the initial movement to the construction of the temple.
