Chandigarh News: A Chandigarh Police constable has been suspended after his wife’s dance video, filmed on a zebra crossing at Sector-20 Gurdwara Chowk, went viral and led to traffic disruption. The incident occurred on March 20 around 4:30 PM, sparking criticism over public safety concerns.
The woman, identified as Jyoti, recorded the dance reel with the help of her sister-in-law Pooja after visiting a temple in Sector 32. The video shows Jyoti performing to a Haryanvi song while vehicles wait behind her. As the clip gained traction online, it triggered debate over the increasing trend of social media content being made in public spaces.
Following complaints, Head Constable Jasbir filed an FIR at the Sector 34 police station. The Chandigarh Police launched an inquiry, with ASI Baljit Singh’s team analysing CCTV footage from Sector 20 and Sector 17 police stations. As a result, Jyoti and Pooja were booked under Sections 125, 292, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for obstructing traffic and causing public inconvenience.

Meanwhile, Constable Ajay Kundu, posted at the Sector 19 police station, was suspended as the video had been uploaded from his Instagram account. However, both Jyoti and Pooja were released on bail soon after their arrest.

Kundu’s suspension has drawn mixed reactions. Many questioned the fairness of holding him accountable for his wife’s actions, arguing that the punishment was unnecessary. Others criticised the growing trend of creating social media reels in public spaces at the cost of public convenience.
One social media user wrote, “Suspension seems unfair. She was just dancing.” Another remarked, “People are obsessed with reels, ignoring the trouble they cause.”
