Chandrayaan-3 Highlights: Wishes Continue To Pour In From Across Country And World Day After India Lands On Moon

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanks world leaders for their congratulatory messages on the success of Chandrayaan-3. "Since yesterday I have been receiving congratulatory messages from everyone. Worldover, this achievement is not seen as a success limited to one country, but of the entire humanity. It is a matter of pride for all of us. This is an opportunity to congratulate Indian scientists on behalf of the entire world," he says in brief remarks at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

Despite the chill in bilateral ties, Pakistan's media on Thursday gave front-page coverage to India's historic moon landing while a former minister even called it a "great moment" for India's space agency, ISRO. 'India becomes first nation to land near Moon's south pole' was the headline in most of the Pakistani newspapers and websites. The News International, the Dawn newspaper, the Business Recorder, Dunya News and others carried stories by various international news agencies.

Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi expresses her joy at ISRO creating history with soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on moon and said that she was thrilled by ISRO's 'magnificient achievement'. "This is to let you know how thrilled I was by ISRO's magnificent achievement last evening. It is a matter of great pride and excitement to all Indians, particularly the younger generation," she said.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the scientists on successfully landing Chandrayaan-3 at the South Pole of the moon.

"Moonshots work! Congratulations to @narendramodi, @ISRO, and the Indian scientists for the first successful landing at the South Pole of the Moon," Gates posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar says, "I am very proud to see the great moment which has created history in Indian science. India has shown that it is the knowledge capital of the world. The entire team has worked for this success story...We are very proud of this great moment. We all shared the joy. The next generation will definitely take it forward."

It was a 'proud and historic day' for India's 32 million-plus strong diaspora, which stood in unison with their mother country amid chants of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram', as the nation conquered the moon on Wednesday with its historic Chandrayaan-3 mission.

From holding special screenings of the landing event, to saying prayers and distributing sweets, loudest cheers on the mission's success could be heard from the community that is far away, yet not away from India.

President Droupadi Murmu congratulates the team of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as Pragyan rover rolls out onto the lunar surface. "I once again congratulate the ISRO team and all fellow citizens for successful deployment of Pragyan-rover from inside Vikram-lander. Its rolling out a few hours after the landing of Vikram marked the success of yet another stage of Chandrayan 3. I look forward with excitement, alongside my fellow citizens and scientists to the information and analyses that Pragyan will acquire and enrich our understanding of the moon," she says.

The Lander and the Rover have a mission life of one Lunar day, which equals 14 days on Earth. The two robots have scientific payloads to carry out experiments on the lunar surface. The Rover payloads are the LIBS or 'Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope' and the APXS or 'Alpha Particle X-Ray Spectrometer'.

Function of LIBS
- determine qualitative, quantitative elemental analysis
- derive chemical composition
- infer mineralogical composition

Function of APXS
- determine elemental composition (Magnesium, Aluminium, Silicone, Potassium, Calcium Titanium and Iron) of Lunar soil and rocks around lunar landing site
