The Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO on Wednesday released fresh images of the moon's surfaces taken by the Lander Horizontal Velocity Camera of Chandrayaan-3 during the descent. ISRO, in its release after the historic landing, said that the communication link is established between the Ch-3 Lander and MOX-ISTRAC, Bengaluru.

India scripted history as ISRO's ambitious third Moon mission Chandrayaan-3's Lander Module (LM) touched down on the lunar surface, making it only the fourth country to accomplish the feat, and first to reach the uncharted south pole of Earth's only natural satellite.

Earlier, on successfully soft landing on the lunar surface as planned at 6.04 PM today, ISRO posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Chandrayaan-3 Mission: India, I reached my destination, and you too!" directly addressing India, while capturing the joy and sense of accomplishment of the entire nation.

The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft comprises a propulsion module (weighing 2,148 kg), a lander (1,723.89 kg) and a rover (26 kg). With the landing, a major portion of the Rs 600 crore Chandrayaan-3 mission has been realised. The remaining portion is the moon rover rolling down from the lander, moving around and doing the programmed experiments.

Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2 and its objectives are to demonstrate safe and soft landing on the lunar surface, roving on the Moon, and to conduct in-situ scientific experiments.

Chandrayaan-2 had failed in its lunar phase when its lander 'Vikram' crashed into the surface of the Moon minutes before the touchdown following anomalies in the braking system in the lander while attempting a landing on September 7, 2019. Chandrayaan's maiden mission was in 2008.
