Chennai News: A Chennai-based employee has said that getting time off from work has turned into a monthly struggle, after their manager allegedly refused to approve even two days of leave in a row. The experience was shared in a detailed Reddit post, which also included a screenshot of an email from the manager. The post quickly gained traction and opened a discussion on strict leave practices in some offices.
According to the employee, leave plans are prepared in advance and a full schedule is sent to the manager every month. Despite this, requests for two consecutive days are almost always denied. The employee wrote that each attempt to take a two-day break ends the same way, the manager insists it must be split into separate days.
The email shared in the post shows the manager advising the employee to “avoid taking leave 2 days at a stretch”, saying it affects the team’s productivity. The employee also mentioned that clubbing leave with weekends or public holidays is not allowed. The manager reportedly argues that the team is small and any absence places extra pressure on others.
The situation described in the post reflects a pattern, as the employee claimed this issue comes up every month. They said they often end up adjusting their plans to meet the manager’s conditions, even when the leave was planned well in advance.
The post triggered strong reactions from Reddit users. Many people commented that they had dealt with similar restrictions at work. One user wrote, “Seen these kinds of managers recently. They literally take zero responsibility and accountability.” Another added, “‘Planned’ leaves are supposed to be planned by the employee. Not the employer.” Some users pointed out that such problems are often linked to organisational policies rather than individual managers.
