Chennai Metro Phase 1 Extension: In a major move to ease commuting woes for thousands of residents in Chennai suburbs, the Tamil Nadu government has released an order sanctioning Rs 1,964 crore for the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) phase 1 extension. The upcoming corridor will connect Chennai Airport to the New Kalaignar Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam, improving connectivity for South Chennai and suburban areas.

The 15.5 km extension will cover 13 stations, passing through major suburbs such as Pallavaram, Chrompet, Tambaram, Perungulathur, and Vandalur, NDTV reported. The corridor will provide much-needed relief to the office goers. The extension will reduce congestion on roads and cut travel time.
