Chennai News: Namma Yatri, an open mobility application, introduced cab services in the city on Thursday, three months after launching auto services. Namma yatri app aims to address the issues of high commissions and lack of transparency that exist in current ride-hailing apps. To tackle this, the platform does not charge any commission from its drivers. Instead, passengers have the responsibility of paying the full amount directly to the drivers.
Subscription Fee For Namma Yatri Drivers
Namma Yatri implements a daily subscription fee for the drivers in which they either pay a daily subscription fee of 45 at the end of their first trip of the day or pay 9 per ride. This minimum support price for drivers is intended to establish fair pricing, eliminate surge pricing and benefit both drivers and customers equally, according to a press release.

The launch event received support from major cab and taxi unions in Chennai. Times Of India report quoted, Shan M S, a representative from Namma Yatri, as saying that over 15,000 cab drivers have already registered with the app. The company's goal is to increase this number to 50,000 within the next three months.
Namma Yatri's platform is seamlessly integrated with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and prides itself on complete transparency, utilising open data and open-source software. T Koshy, the CEO of ONDC, stated that, "This is a momentous step towards ONDC's broader vision of facilitating a multi-modal journey across the country. With Chennai Metro already on the network, the inclusion of Chennai's cabs and autos by Namma Yatri completes this for the city."
