Chennai News: In Chennai and its surrounding suburbs, the weather for the next 24 hours is expected to be partly cloudy, with a chance of light to moderate rainfall in several areas of the metropolitan region. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a 'yellow alert' for the next two days, covering six districts in the state of Tamil Nadu. These districts include Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Nilgiris, Erode, and Coimbatore, where heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is anticipated.

The Met department has also predicted mild showers in the Chennai and Tiruvallur districts over the same period, with the forecast indicating above-normal rainfall levels on August 8.

Additionally, the RMC has warned that surface winds with speeds ranging from 30-40 kilometres per hour will affect the state over the next two days. Fishermen have been advised to refrain from venturing into the sea until August 7, due to the strong winds prevailing in the Gulf of Mannar and the adjoining Cameron area.

Tamil Nadu has received 191 millimetres of rainfall during this period, compared to the average of 126.8 millimetres, with the highest levels recorded in Tirunelveli district.

Chennai Power Cut: Monday

Chennai and its suburbs are expected to face schedule power outages in several areas on Monday, August 5, from 9 am to 2 pm, to facilitate maintenance work. The supply is expected to be restored before 2 pm, provided the work is completed on time.
