Chennai Vande Metro: The Vande Metro, a metro-variant of the renowned Vande Bharat trains, is set to commence commercial operations shortly. Designed for shorter-distance routes and accommodating standing passengers, this new train service aims to replace the existing Mainline Multiple Electric Units (MEMUs).

The trial run of the Vande Metro between Chennai and Katpadi will take place today, August 3, with the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) onboard to oversee the proceedings. The trial will be conducted between Chennai Beach and Katpadi Junction, providing a glimpse of the train's capabilities.

Chennai Vande Metro Features

The Vande Metro prototype, recently launched from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), is a fully air-conditioned train designed to reach a maximum speed of 130 km/h. It boasts world-class facilities, including automatic doors, enhanced toilet amenities and an infotainment system, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable journey for commuters.

Chennai Vande Metro Trial Run Schedule

The trial run will commence at 9:30 am from Chennai Beach Station, with the train reaching Villivakkam at 10:10 am for officers to board. After a brief stop, the journey towards Katpadi will begin at 10:15 am, arriving at 11:55 am. The return journey will start from Katpadi at 12:15 pm, with the train expected to reach Chennai Beach at 2 pm.

Addressing concerns, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw clarified that the introduction of Vande Bharat trains will not replace the existing train services. As of July 29, 102 Vande Bharat train services are running across the Indian Railways, connecting states with a Broad Gauge (B.G.) electrified network.
