In a major success, the Chennai Police has arrested a mastermind of drug network from New Delhi. The accused belongs go West African nation Cote d'Ivoire, the Chennai Police said on Monday.

Providing additional details about the accused, the Chennai Police said that the arrested person was identified as Abou (39). He was arrested from the national capital, along with one of his accomplices, a City Police release said.

The lates arrests mark the earlier arrest of 11 persons in the city. Out of the total 11, five were foreigners. All of them were arrested in connection with a drug bust in the city. The official release further added that methamphetamine and ganja among other drugs were seized along with the 11 arrests.

The release added that Abou was the "mastermind" in this network and was arrested from West Delhi on Saturday along with the other man.

As per the statement, Chennai Police recovered 15 grams of cocaine, 3 grams of methamphetamine, 7 grams of heroin, and Rs 50,000 in cash from their possession. After due legal process in the national capital, the two will be brought to Chennai for remand.

Earliewr on May 2, Union Home Minister hailed the fight against drug in India. He took to X and informed about 15 individuals being arrested in connection with drug business across four states, including Punjab, and Delhi, in four months hunt. He also said that recovery under the operation led by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) was of worth Rs 547 crore. 

He said, "Bharat is axing down drug cartels with ruthless aggression. The Amritsar Zonal Unit of the NCB axed a drug diversion cartel through a 4-month-long operation across 4 states, seizing drugs worth ₹547 crore and arresting 15. It is a giant stride towards building a drug-free Bharat under the vision of PM Narendra Modi. Congratulations to Team NCB."
