Chennai Traffic Advisory: The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced temporary traffic diversions in North Chennai starting from July 7 due to the construction of stormwater drains. The work will take place along a narrow stretch of Thiruvottiyur High (TH) Road, between Sir Thiyagaraya College and the Cemetery Road junction at Old Washermenpet.

Chennai Traffic Advisory: Routes Diverted

To reduce congestion and ensure safety, buses and heavy vehicles coming from the Mint area will be diverted at the TH Road-Cemetery Road junction. These vehicles must take the alternate route via Cemetery Road, MS Koil Street, SN Chetty Road and Jeevarathinam Salai to reach the TH Road-Apollo Hospital junction.

Meanwhile, two-wheelers and light motor vehicles (LMVs) from Mint will be allowed to use the regular path along TH Road to reach Apollo Hospital junction. Vehicles moving in the opposite direction, from Apollo Hospital towards Mint, can also use the usual route without any change.

The civic authorities have requested motorists to follow the diversion plan to help speed up the drain construction project and avoid traffic congestion. A traffic officer stated that the changes were planned carefully to reduce public inconvenience and ensure smooth movement. Commuters are advised to plan ahead and follow road signs and instructions from on-duty traffic personnel.

In separate news, Chennai has become a top city for freshers’ salaries, as per Indeed's PayMap Survey. The report, based on inputs from over 1,300 employers and 2,500 employees, shows that Chennai offers the highest entry-level pay, with freshers earning around Rs 30,100 per month. Hyderabad tops for mid-level professionals, offering salaries up to Rs 69,700.

The study found that cities like Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad are now growing faster than traditional metros. Many workers feel their salary doesn’t match the cost of living—especially in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. In contrast, cities like Chennai and Kolkata are seen as more affordable. The IT/ITeS sector leads in salaries across all levels, especially in digital and AI-related roles.
