Chennai News: Passengers travelling on the MEMU trains between Katpadi and Jolarpettai should be aware that services will be suspended on Friday. This cancellation is due to essential engineering work scheduled in the Arakkonam - Jolarpettai section, specifically between Valathoor and Melpatti.

The affected trains include the MEMU service departing Katpadi at 09:30 AM and the one leaving Jolarpettai at 12:45 PM. Both trains will not operate on December 6, as the engineering works will take place from 10:55 AM to 2:55 PM.

Southern Railway has announced these changes and advises passengers to plan their journeys accordingly.

In separate news, The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced the extension of special trains to accommodate increased passenger demand during Christmas and Sankranti. The extended services include routes between Visakhapatnam and Chennai Egmore, Visakhapatnam and Shalimar, Sambalpur and Erode and Bhubaneswar and Yesvantpur (Bengaluru).

Train No. 08557 Visakhapatnam-Chennai Egmore will depart Visakhapatnam at 7 PM every Saturday from December 7 to March 1, 2025, arriving in Chennai at 8:45 AM the next day. The return service, Train No. 08558, will leave Chennai at 10:30 AM on Sundays from December 8 to March 2, reaching Visakhapatnam at 10:35 PM

Similarly, Train No. 08508 Visakhapatnam-Shalimar will run on Tuesdays, departing at 11:20 AM from December 10 to March 4, 2025, arriving in Shalimar at 3 AM the following day. The return train, No. 08507, will leave Shalimar on Wednesdays at 5 AM and reach Visakhapatnam by 8:50 PM
