Chennai Weather: Chennai is likely to see increased rainfall activity from March 1. As per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), several parts of Tamil Nadu are bracing for a stretch of wet weather with heavy rainfall until March 3. From February 28, at least 10 Tamil Nadu districts, including: Thoothukudi, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, and Madurai are expected to see isolated heavy rainfall. By March 1, southern Tamil Nadu will bear the brunt, with Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Kanniyakumari, and Virudhunagar likely to receive showers.

According to the RMC forecast, the city will experience thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain on February 28 and March 1. The maximum temperature will hover around 33 degrees Celsius, offering a slight reprieve from the usual warmth.

Why Is It Raining Now?

The rains are being driven by moist northeasterly winds blowing over Tamil Nadu. These winds are expected to keep the region cooler than usual, with a drop in daytime temperatures between February 28 and March 3. However, dry weather is likely to return by March 4.

Weather Forecast 

February 28: Chennai will see partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rain in some areas.

March 1: Similar weather is expected, with more rain over south Tamil Nadu.

March 4: Rains are expected to ease, with a return to dry weather across the State.

Residents are advised to carry umbrellas, stay alert for weather updates, and be prepared for thunderstorms as the city moves into a rainy weekend.
