Chennai Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert for Chennai. Light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some parts of the city. An atmospheric circulation will form in the South Andaman Sea, following this, a low pressure area will form till December 16 and move in a west-northwesterly direction towards the Tamil Nadu coast, the Meteorological Department said. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on December 14 and 15. There will be widespread rain on December 16, 17 and 18 and light to moderate rain at a few places on December 19.
Tamil Nadu Weather: Heavy Rain On December 16, 17, 18 and 19
On December 16, there is a possibility of heavy rain at one or two places in Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai districts and in the Karaikal region. On the December 17, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai districts and in the Karaikal region, and heavy rain at one or two places in Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Pudukkottai, Trichy, Chengalpattu districts and in Puducherry. On December 18, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Delta districts, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai and Kanchipuram districts.
In a statement issued by the Chennai Meteorological Department, it was said: The northeast monsoon is very intense in Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain has fallen in most places. According to the rainfall recorded in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Friday, 29 places received heavy rain, 81 places received very heavy rain and 16 places received heavy rain.
Tamil Nadu Weather: Advisory For Fishermen
Cyclonic storms with a maximum speed of 55 kmph are likely to occur along the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and Kumari Sea on December 17. Therefore, fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
