Delhi Metro: The Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has decided to enhance metro connectivity in Delhi. The ministry has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to build a seven kilometers long underground metro corridor, connecting several VIP areas in the national capital and finalise the proposed alignment. The move will declutter the traffic congestion in Central Delhi that includes Central Vista, India Gate, North and South blocks to the Indraprastha metro station.
The new infrastructure will be an extension of the Inderlok-Indraprastha metro corridor. The plan was approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this year.
The proposed map includes connectivity through the Kartavya Path and ends at the North and South Blocks. It should be noted that a proposal has been submitted for a museum as part of the redevelopment plan of the Central Vista -- the nation's power corridor.
Other than that, the proposed underground metro will pass through Common Central Secretariat, India Gate and Bharat Mandapam.
The idea to bring the new metro corridor is to decongest central Delhi. As the footfall of visitors has risen after the redevelopment of the Kartavya Path, more government buildings and tourism spots are being planned in the area. This is likely to increase commuters’ turnout.

"Ten new office buildings will also be constructed under the Common Central Secretariat which will house various ministries. Of the 10 buildings, three are currently under construction. Besides, a museum is also proposed to come up at the North and South Blocks. Once the new metro corridor is operational, it will cater to thousands of people," sources told ANI. They added that the plan is in the early stages.
The metro stations on the proposed corridor will come up at:
-Bharat Mandapam
-India Gate
-North and South Blocks
Under the Central Vista redevelopment plan, a new parliament and a vice president enclave have been built while the 3-km stretch (Kartavya Path) from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate has also been revamped.
