Chennai Weather: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning for Chennai on Thursday. Various districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai have been witnessing showers for the past few days causing waterlogging, and massive traffic snarls.
Yesterday, the IMD said that a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu coast will weaken during the next 24 hours.

"The Well marked low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast moved nearly northwestwards across north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & south Andhra Pradesh coasts and lay over the north coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood at 1730 hrs IST of today, the 22nd October 2025,” IMD posted on X.
"It is likely to move west-northwestwards across north Tamil Nadu & south Andhra Pradesh and weakened into a low pressure area during next 24 hours," it added.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast
Light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms and lightning will occur at isolated places over Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli districts until 10 am on Thursday. Districts including Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur will also see light rain.
On Friday, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Cuddalore, Villuppuram, Chengalpattu districts and Puducherry.
With a brief break on Saturday, showers will once again return on Sunday over Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ranipet districts and Puducherry.
Meanwhile, there is no official notification on whether schools and colleges will be closed in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai and Puducherry on Thursday. Educational institutions are likely to be closed if weather conditions turn bad.
