The incident occurred on Tuesday night at RKM Powergen Pvt Ltd’s plant in the Dabhra area of Ucchpinda village in the district, Sakti Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma said.

Based on initial reports, ten workers were inside the lift when the incident occurred as they were descending to the ground floor after finishing their work.

According to preliminary information, ten workers were inside the lift and were descending to the ground after completing their routine work when the lift suddenly crashed, injuring all of them. They were immediately rushed to Jindal Fortis Hospital in neighbouring Raigarh district, where four workers succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining six are undergoing treatment, officials said.

The lift, which had a capacity of around 2,000 kilograms, had undergone maintenance recently on September 29. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, the official added.

In a separate incident, at least three workers, including two women, were injured in an explosion at SECL’s Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district on Monday. The incident occurred between 2 pm and 3 pm while workers were preparing for a routine blasting operation.

Seven to eight workers were laying explosives on the coal bed when the blast occurred prematurely, sending rock fragments flying and hitting workers and nearby vehicles. The injured were immediately taken to SECL’s regional hospital at Kurasia, where they were reported to be out of danger and are expected to be discharged soon.

SECL’s safety department and district officials are reviewing precautions to prevent future incidents.
