Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections 2023: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has released a list of nine candidates for the upcoming Chhattisgarh assembly elections, including its two sitting MLAs, a state party leader announced on Wednesday.
Assembly elections in the Congress-ruled state of Chhattisgarh are due this year-end, although the poll schedule has not yet been announced.
The list of nine candidates for the Chhattisgarh polls was revealed late Tuesday night on the direction of BSP national president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, party's state president Hemant Poyam told PTI.
Legislators Keshav Prasad Chandra and Indu Banjare, who represent Jaijaipur (Sakti district) and Pamgarh (Janjgir-Champa district), respectively, have been fielded from their respective constituencies, he said.
According to the list, the other candidates are Dauram Ratnakar (Masturi seat-reserved for SC candidates), Omprakash Bachpayee (Nawagarh-SC reserved), Radheshyam Suryavanshi (Janjgir-Champa), Dr. Vinod Sharma (Akaltara), Shayam Tandan (Bilaigarh- SC reserved), Ramkumar Suryavanshi (Beltara) and Anand Tigga (Samri-reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates).
The BSP competed in the 2018 state assembly elections in coalition with the Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) and the Communist Party of India (CPI). The Mayawati-led party received 4.27 per cent of the vote in two seats, Jaijaipur and Pamgarh, while its alliance partner JCC (J) received 7.6 per cent votes and bagged five seats. This time, neither party has announced an alliance.
