Bastar News: The national flag will be hoisted in six remote villages for the first time since the nation's independence in Chhattisgarh's Naxalite-infested Bastar region, police said on Monday.
Security troops have reportedly set up new camps close to these settlements, opening the path for growth, they claimed.
“The tricolour will be hoisted in Chinnagelur, Timenar, and Hiroli villagers in Bijapur district and Bedre, Dubbamarka and Tondamarka villages in Sukma district on Tuesday, where such an event has not been witnessed since independence," Sundarraj P, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
According to him, Independence Day will be observed for the first time in the villages of Pidmel, Dubbakonta, Silger, and Kunded in Sukma district, which saw the hoisting of the tricolor for the first time on Republic Day (January 26) this year.
The official said, "The establishment of new camps near these villages has pushed Naxalites on the back foot. It has also resulted in bringing down incidents of black flag hoisting by them (on Independence and Republic days) to almost zero. The tricolour will be now be hoisted with zeal and patriotism at these places."
According to him, the establishment of new camps has also permitted government welfare initiatives to reach individuals, primarily tribals, and has cleared the road for growth in these places.
Sukma and Bijapur are two of the seven districts in the Bastar division that have been dealing with the threat of Left Wing Extremism for the past three decades.
