In a major success, the joint forces of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand Police neutralised eight Naxalites in Jharkhand's Bokaro district.
As per the officials, the encounter broke out at 5:30 am in the Lugu Hills area under the Lalpania police station. The operation is currently underway as intermittent firing continues.
The operation was launched by the 209 Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) commandoes of CRPF and Bokaro Police based on an intel about the Naxal elements' presence in the area, they added.
Meanwhile, the security forces also recovered arms and ammunition from the site of the gunfight. An AK series rifle, three INSAS rifles, a self-loading rifle (SLR), eight country-made guns and a pistol were seized have been recovered. No injuries to troops have been reported in the encounter.

The development comes a week after the security forces seized seven live improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and demolished 11 bunkers of Naxalites in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum.
22 Naxalites surrender in Chhattisgarh
Moreover, on Friday, at least 22 Naxalites surrendered before the security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma. 12 among the 22 Naxalites who surrendered carried a cumulative bounty of over Rs 40.5 lakh, the police said.
Sukma SP Kiran Chavan said that the cadre, including nine women, laid down their weapons before the senior officials of the police and the CRPF, citing disappointment with "hollow" and "inhuman" Maoist ideology and atrocities on local tribals.
In another development, Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai is expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his office in North Block in New Delhi in the evening for a comprehensive review of the anti-Naxal operations in his state and related subjects, officials said.
Over 140 Maoists have been gunned down in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh this year, called by security officials as the "last bastion" for Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the country.
