Security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district recovered a large cache of fake currency notes and printing equipment linked to Naxalites, police said on Sunday. The discovery, made during a Saturday evening operation on a forested hill near Korajguda village, followed intelligence received earlier in the day about Naxals printing counterfeit money.

The joint security team from various forces conducted a search operation, recovering counterfeit notes in denominations of Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 500. Additionally, they confiscated a coloured printing machine, a black-and-white printer, an inverter machine, 200 bottles of ink, four printer cartridges, nine printer rollers, six wireless sets and associated chargers and batteries.

"We received information on June 22, Saturday, about the printing of fake currency notes by Naxals. Hence, an operation was launched in the area and printers, ink, and fake notes were seized," Sukma District Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said.

This operation follows a violent encounter earlier last week in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, where at least eight Naxalites were killed. The clash occurred in the Abujhmad forests involving Narayanpur-Kondagaon-Kanker-Dantewada District Reserve Guards (DRG), Special Task Forces (STF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police's (ITBP) 53rd Battalion.

During the encounter, one jawan lost his life and two others were injured. Officials believe that several other Naxalites sustained injuries. The security forces have intensified search operations in the Kutul, Farashbeda and Kodtameda areas of the Abujhmad forests to apprehend the remaining Naxalites.
