Chhattisgarh Crime: An enraged mob reportedly tried to beat the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in Surajpur, Chhattisgarh, on Monday in a startling event. According to visuals shared on social media site X by news agency IANS, an enraged mob was seen chasing toward a senior officer who was on the scene to manage the crowd. However, police officers backed the SDM and pulled him from the crowd.

Tensions flared in Surajpur after a history-sheeter criminal reportedly murdered a police officer's wife and daughter. The culprit also attempted to crush the chief constable beneath a truck and hurled boiling oil at his colleague.

On Monday, the dead bodies of chief constable Talib Sheikh's wife, Mehnaaz (35) and daughter, Aliya (11), were discovered on the outskirts of Pidha village, 4 kilometres from their residence in the City Kotwali police station borders, according to news agency PTI.

The incident occurred after history-sheeter Kudeep Sahu flung boiling oil at one of the constables stationed during a Durga idol immersion ceremony on Sunday.

The accused reportedly attempted to drive over Sheikh and other police officers with a four-wheeler when they came at the site to apprehend him for the oil attack, but he escaped, according to police.

“When Sheikh returned home after duty, he found the door broken and his wife and daughter missing. He alerted the police when he saw blood stains inside the house, and a search was launched for his family,” a senior police official said.

According to the official, the evidence suggests that the accused used a sharp instrument to strike and murder the mother and daughter duo.
