The police have arrested Prabhakar Rao, a prominent Naxalite leader, in the Antagarh area of Chhattisgarh, bringing an end to his decades-long criminal activities. Rao, also known as Balmuri Narayan Rao, has been a key figure in the Naxalite movement for over 40 years, and a reward of Rs 25 lakh had been announced for his capture. He was responsible for logistics and mobile political training for the North Sub Zonal Bureau, which is active in multiple states.
Rao has been involved in numerous crimes across states like Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, with several criminal cases registered against him. His influence within the Naxalite organisation was significant, as he maintained close ties with several senior Naxal leaders, including CCM Secretary Basava Raju and K. Ramachandra Reddy.

His arrest marks a crucial achievement for the Chhattisgarh police. On December 22, police carried out a well-planned blockade operation in Antagarh, resulting in Rao’s capture. His activities were also reportedly noticed in the Kanker district in recent days, further raising concerns about his operations. Police officials continue to interrogate him for more information about his criminal network.

Prabhakar Rao’s involvement in Naxalism dates back to 1984, when he joined the movement in undivided Andhra Pradesh. His activity spanned across various regions, including Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh and North Bastar, Koylibeda, where he served in various capacities, including head of logistics and supply teams. From 2005 to 2024, Rao led the DKSZC supply team and mobile political training school.
Police officials stated that 884 Naxalites have been arrested from the region this year, highlighting the significant progress in controlling Naxal influence in the area.
