Chhattisgarh Encounter:  Ten Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Konta on Friday, said senior officials. Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan confirmed that the encounter occurred early Friday morning in the Bhejji area. Several weapons, including three automatic firearms, were seized from the scene by security forces.

The operation was launched by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) following an intelligence input that Maoists were entering Chhattisgarh via Odisha. Inspector General of Bastar, P Sundarraj, has confirmed the encounter, but information on the number of casualties and the types of weapons recovered is still awaited.

According to news agency PTI, an intermittent exchange of gunfire is still ongoing.

Last month, security forces killed thirty-one Maoists in a forest along the Narayanpur-Dantewada border in Chhattisgarh. Several assault rifles, including AK-series and other weapons, were recovered.

This encounter is considered one of the most significant successes for security forces in their efforts to combat the Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh.
