Chief Justice Surya Kant on Wednesday reprimanded a petitioner for contacting his brother over a verdict passed in the case.
Lambasting the petitioner, the CJI questioned why the court should not initiate contempt proceedings against the petitioner's father, who allegedly made the call.
Addressing the petitioner's counsel, CJI said, "Why should there not be a contempt proceeding against your client? He dares to call my brother on the phone and tell him about this order passed by the CJI? He will dictate to me?”
In a cautious tone, the CJI further added that such incidents would not be tolerated in the court. "You verify, and then as a counsel, first you should withdraw! Even if he hides out in India, I know how to deal with these kinds of people. Never even dare to do it. I have dealt with these kinds of elements for the last 23 years," the CJI said in a sharply worded warning.
According to a report by Live Law, the petitioner's counsel told the court that he wasn't aware of the alleged conduct of his client's father and apologised for the incident.
The incident pertains to the hearing of a case filed by two Haryana candidates seeking admission to a postgraduate medical course under the Buddhist minority quota at a UP medical college.
The petitioners have claimed their eligibility as the institution has been declared a Buddhist minority educational institution, and they had converted to the religion.

While hearing their petition, a bench led by CJI, in January, expressed doubt over the genuineness of the theory of religious conversion and ordered an inquiry into their minority certificates.
On Wednesday, when the matter came up again, the court learnt about the alleged phone call that triggered a sharp disapproval from the CJI.
