Following the unrest during the Cockroach Janata Party's 'Chalo Sansad March' on Monday, security remained heightened across the Jantar Mantar area and nearby locations on Tuesday. To prevent any untoward incident and maintain law and order, the Delhi Police further intensified security arrangements in the area. Entry to the protest site at Jantar Mantar was allowed only after visitors passed through a five-layer barricading system and security checks.
The Gen Z-led protest was organised as the CJP demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged exam irregularities and paper leaks. The party also sought accountability for NEET students who took their lives under stress.
ID Cards and Bags Checked at Entry Points
In view of the protest, police personnel were seen checking bags, identity cards, and other belongings of visitors. As the number of protesters increased in the afternoon, security measures were further intensified, with multiple layers of barricades set up around the area. Thousands of Delhi Police personnel, along with paramilitary forces, transformed the Parliament Street area into a heavily guarded zone. Senior police officials remained stationed at the site and continuously monitored the security situation.
CCTV Cameras and Drones Used for Surveillance
The police maintained strict surveillance of the area through CCTV cameras, drones, and other technological resources. Personnel in plain clothes were deployed among the crowd to identify and respond to any suspicious activity. Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and additional police forces were also kept on standby at sensitive locations.
Traffic Restrictions Continued on Tuesday
Security arrangements and barricading at several locations in the New Delhi district led to restrictions on traffic movement on major roads, including Parliament Street, Tolstoy Marg, Janpath, Ashoka Road, India Gate, and adjoining routes.
The movement of general vehicles remained restricted in these areas, with only vehicles belonging to police personnel, security agencies, and emergency services being allowed through. Traffic congestion increased on alternative routes due to barricading and vehicle checks at multiple points.
Commuters, including office-goers, faced delays and inconvenience due to congestion and the need to take longer routes.
VVIP Movement Adds to Commuter Challenges
Traffic movement on several major roads was also affected due to VVIP movement during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. Despite the traffic police issuing an advisory about possible disruptions and suggesting alternate routes, the additional security arrangements for Rahul Gandhi’s protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence and the CJP’s demonstration further contributed to traffic-related difficulties for commuters.
