Sukhpal Singh Khaira Arrest: Amid receiving backlash from Congress over the arrest of its MLA, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal responded to it saying they are fighting against drugs and not against any party or a leader.

"Three days back, a very big person was caught who was facing an accusation of drug trafficking. All the parties are targeting Bhagwant Mann, asking him why he did it. I want to ask whether drug traffickers should be arrested or not. Whether drug traffickers should be put behind bars or not?" Kejriwal said, as quoted by news agency PTI. The chief minister also appealed to all political parties to support AAP in the war against drugs.

"I want to tell all these parties that we have no fight against any party. Our fight is not against any leader. We are not against anyone. We are against drugs," CM Kejriwal said while addressing a gathering in Patiala. "Drugs have destroyed our youth and an entire generation...we will not tolerate drugs at any cost, he added.

AAP supremo also commended the Bhagwant Mann administration for its efforts in reducing the drug issue in the state and noted that the Punjab Police had recently started a war on drugs.

Since the Punjab Police arrested Khaira under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, it has stirred a war of words between the incumbent AAP government and Congress in the state. As leaders from both parties have exchanged verbal arguments, AAP MP Sushil Gupta recently stated that Khaira had joined the Grand Old Party for political protection so that he wouldn't get arrested.

The remark from AAP leader followed after Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring lashed out at the state government and said that Punjab has entered the 'Jungle Raj'.

Congress MLA was arrested from his residence on September 28 and later was sent to a two-day police remand by Fazlika's Jalalabad court in connection with a 2015 drugs smuggling case.
