Coimbatore College Student Rape Case: In a fresh update on the rape of a college student near Coimbatore International Airport, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Saravana Sundar has confirmed the arrest of the three accused.
Police apprehended the three accused on Tuesday. However, during the arrest, the police had to shoot the three suspects in the legs as they attempted to flee.

“The accused were trying to escape from the spot when the police had to shoot them in the leg in Vellakinaru, on the outskirts of Coimbatore city. The injured accused are Guna, Karuppasamy, and Karthik alias Kaleeswaran. All the accused have been sent to GH Coimbatore. A head constable was also injured in the encounter,” Sundar told ANI.
Background: What Happened?
A college student was reportedly abducted and gang-raped by three unidentified men near Coimbatore International Airport in Tamil Nadu late Sunday night. She was later found naked and traumatised in a vacant plot close to the airport and was immediately rushed to a private hospital.

Police sources said the assault took place around 11 pm in a secluded area behind the airport. The victim, a student at a private college, was sitting in a parked car with her male friend, Vineeth, when the accused approached. They allegedly attacked Vineeth and forcibly dragged the woman. The three men then took turns raping her before fleeing the scene.

Vineeth, who sustained serious injuries while trying to resist the attackers, managed to reach the Peelamedu police station and alert the authorities.
