According to police, the woman was sitting near the roadside when the man approached her. The dogs began barking continuously as he came closer.
The man reportedly asked the woman whether the dogs belonged to her. She suggested that he throw a stone to scare them away. He did so, causing the dogs to move back briefly, but they continued barking and stayed nearby.
According to media reports, the man allegedly took advantage of the deserted area and attempted to assault the woman sexually. When she screamed for help, one of the dogs immediately attacked him.
The other dogs then joined in, barking aggressively and biting the accused before pulling him away from the woman. Frightened by the attack, the man fled from the spot, while the dogs reportedly chased him for some distance.
CCTV footage reportedly captured the incident, helping Thudiyalur police identify the accused. Police subsequently arrested him. The incident has drawn attention to the stray dogs, with people praising their intervention in protecting the woman.
