Confident Group Chairman Suicide: A row has erupted after Confident Group chairman CJ Roy died in Bengaluru after allegedly shooting himself using his licensed pistol. The real estate tycoon took his life reportedly due to the ongoing raids by a team of Income Tax (I-T) officials from Kerala and Karnataka for the past three days. The officials stated that while the gun is believed to be licensed, it was still under verification. Roy's brother has asserted that the continuous raids on his offices are the sole reason behind Roy's death.

Why Did Roy Kill Himself?

A team of Income Tax (I-T) officials from Kochi, along with their Bengaluru counterparts, had been conducting raids at the firm's offices for the past three days. The action is seen as the continuation of the raids that were conducted earlier in December. The officials stated that Roy sought time to call his family after the questioning was over for the day; however, he shot himself.

“By 3.15pm, the questioning was over. He said he would make a call to his family and come back. He then went into another room and shot himself,” an officer was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

'Officials Responsible For His Death'

Roy’s brother, CJ Babu, has told reporters that the deceased was constantly under pressure due to the raids, further stating that the IT officials were solely responsible for his death. "No other...Other than Income Tax issue, he had no other issues. That I am very sure of. He didn't have threats or loans. But I don't know what happened with the Income Tax. I will have to go and find out," Babu told the reporters.

"Let the truth come out. Let us see what will happen...I last spoke with him at 10.40 am yesterday. He called me twice...I will see what the other office staff have to say, I will meet them and get back to you," he added.
