The Congress launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, with Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh calling his coalition the "Narendra Destructive Alliance" (NDA). Ramesh questioned Modi's legitimacy, claiming he had suffered significant personal, political, and moral defeats.

Ramesh referred to May 28, 2023, when Modi entered the new Parliament building with the Sengol, alleging that Modi fabricated a historical narrative to bolster his image and appeal to the Tamil electorate. He stated that the Tamil electorate and the broader Indian electorate had rejected Modi's pretensions.

"We now know the outcome of that drama. The Sengol remains a respected symbol of Tamil history but the Tamil electorate and indeed India's electorate has rejected Mr. Modi's pretensions," Ramesh said.

Ramesh further accused Modi of being forced to comply with the Constitution, which he claimed Modi had undermined over the past decade. Despite the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance securing 293 out of 543 seats in the recent Lok Sabha polls, Ramesh described Modi as a "vastly diminished 'one-third' Pradhan Mantri" who now lacks legitimacy. In contrast, the Congress secured 99 seats, with the majority mark in the lower house being 272.

In another post on X, Ramesh further criticised Modi's visit to Rajghat, linking it to the ideological stance of his supporters. He accused Modi's "ideological brotherhood" of fostering a hostile environment that led to Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. He accused Modi of failing to condemn colleagues who glorify Nathuram Godse, Gandhi's assassin, and of displacing Gandhi's statue in Parliament House.

"Aap track record dekhiye: His ideological brotherhood created such a toxic environment of hostility and hatred that it resulted in the cold-blooded murder of the Mahatma on January 30th, 1948," he said.

Ramesh also claimed that Modi falsely asserted that Mahatma Gandhi was not globally recognised before the release of the 1982 Attenborough film. He accused Modi of demolishing Gandhian institutions in Varanasi, Ahmedabad, and elsewhere, labeling these actions as hypocritical.

"He (Modi) falsely claims that before the Attenborough film of 1982 on him Mahatma Gandhi was not known to the world. He demolishes and destroys Gandhian institutions in Varanasi, Ahmedabad, and elsewhere. Breath-taking hypocrisy!" Ramesh said.
