Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has received an invitation to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan today at 7:15 pm. After discussing with the party and allies, Kharge has decided to attend the event. He will be part of the ceremony in his capacity as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha. Earlier, the Congress party said INDIA bloc members were not invited for the ceremony. Congress leader KC Venugopal had said that the opposition leaders had not received any information from the government regarding the swearing-in ceremony of PM-designate Narendra Modi.
The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress on Saturday met to discuss the future course after the party doubled its numbers in the lower house by accumulating 99 seats on its own in recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. The CWC unanimously urged Rahul Gandhi to take up the post of the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.

Although Rahul Gandhi mentioned he would make a decision "very soon," former party president Sonia Gandhi was re-elected as chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party by the newly-elected MPs of the Lok Sabha and the members of the Rajya Sabha during a meeting held in the Central Hall of Parliament.
Narendra Modi will today take oath as the Prime Minister of India for a third consecutive term. The mega event will take place at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. Over 8,000 people, including dignitaries from across the world, are expected to participate in the event.
Security has been heightened across the national capital and over 10,000 personnel have been deployed to maintain traffic and manage VVIP movements. Several heads of state will attend Modi's oath ceremony.
Among those who have accepted invitations are Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, Seychellois Vice-President Ahmed Afif, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
