Parliament Winter Session: A political row erupted on the first day of the winter session of parliament as Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury brought a puppy with her. While the Congress leader sent the puppy back home, she escalated the row by claiming that "those who bite sit inside the parliament". She asserted that no rule prohibits the parliamentarians from bringing any animal, further questioning how anyone could criticise her for saving an animal's life. However, her remarks drew a backlash from the BJP leaders, who claimed that the Congress MP had insulted the parliamentarians by comparing them to a dog.

Chowdhury, while talking to the reporters outside parliament, claimed that she adopted the puppy while on her way to parliament. She further stated that there was no rule that prohibited the parliamentarians from bringing any animal with them, adding that she sent the puppy back home. "What protocol? Is there a law? While on my way to Parliament House, I spotted the puppy near a collision site. Afraid that it could be run over, I picked it up and brought it here in the car. Then I sent it back home," Chowdhury told reporters.

She also claimed that the animal was not dangerous, adding that those who bite were sitting in the parliament. "Those who bite are sitting inside the parliament and running the government. Is there no problem with that? If I take care of an animal, it becomes a topic of discussion," the Congress MP asserted. However, her remarks drew a massive backlash from the BJP leaders, who claimed that she insulted the parliamentarians and the parliament itself.

"Renuka Chowdhury has insulted Parliament and MPs. She brings a dog to Parliament, and when asked about it, she says that those who bite are inside. That means the Parliament, Parliamentary staff, and the MPs. They are dogs, in her opinion. She has in the past also insulted our jawans when she mocked Operation Mahadev and Operation Sindoor," BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla stated.
