Exit Polls: The exit polls for the five states assembly election was released on Wednesday, giving a mixed signal to Congress, the major opposition party of the country. The pollsters have predicted that the party will form government in Kerala after a decade. Apart from this, Congress, along with DMK, is also expected to perform well in Tamil Nadu. However, the grand old party is likely to face a big defeat in the eastern states Assam and West Bengal.
Improved Tally In South
As per most of the exit polls, Congress is expected to form government in Kerala after a decade. The party held a strong campaign against the LDF government and boosted its cadre ahead of the polls. While there were reports of internal conflicts, the party still managed to deal with the crisis. Apart from this, Congress is also expected to improve its tally in Tamil Nadu; however, the leading party in the alliance is DMK.
Party To Struggle In East
The pollsters also predicted that Congress, under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, will not be able to form government in Assam. The party is expected to win around 30 of the 126 seats despite a strong campaign from the central leadership and an anti-incumbency against the BJP government of ten years.
Apart from this, Congress is not even likely to cross single digit in West Bengal, data from the pollsters suggested. The party fielded its prominent leaders like Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury; however, it could not lure in the voters due to several reasons, including weak organisation, less participation from the top brass, and polarisation of election between BJP and TMC.
The grand old party has its government in Karnataka and Telangana and also has a strong organisational presence in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. However, its struggle in the eastern states has continued for previous few polls.
