CONGRESS leader Supriya Shrinate on Sunday launched a scathing attack on wrestler-turned-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Babita Phogat after the latter tweeted about Priyanka Gandhi’s visit to Delhi’s Jantar Mantar where several wrestlers have been protesting while demanding criminal action against WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh over alleged sexual harassment and intimidation case.

“Babita Phogat. The one who does not support her helpless sisters sitting on the road - she is dreaming of becoming a leader,” Congress social media in-charge tweeted in Hindi.

Babita in her tweet mentioned that Congress general secretary reached Jantar Mantar with her secretary Sandeep Singh and alleged that Sandeep himself is facing allegations of women harassment.

“Priyanka Vadra has reached Jantar Mantar while accompanying her secretary Sandeep Singh to provide justice to women wrestlers, while Sandeep himself is facing allegations of women harassment,” Babita said in her tweet.

The Congress leader also criticised Union Minister Smriti Irani for keeping ‘silence’ over the wrestlers’ protest against BJP MP and WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over the sexual harassment allegation levelled by women wrestlers.

“Smriti Irani has taken a vow to keep silence on the sexual exploitation and crimes against women by the BJP. Both of you are not even capable of apologising to the women of this country,” Shrinate added.

Earlier on Saturday, both sisters Babita and Vinesh fired salvos at each other. Babita in her tweet advised the wrestlers to stay away from politicians and to not provide them stage for political purposes.

“The stage set up by the players should not be misused by those trying to make political mileage. Some leaders are trying to use the players for their own political gains. Players should keep such things in their mind. We don't belong to one person but to the entire nation,” Babita tweeted in Hindi.

In her response, Vinesh asked her sister not to weaken the ongoing protest by several wrestlers against the WFI chief. "If you can't stand for the rights of women wrestlers, then Babita sister, I request you with folded hands not to weaken our movement, Vinesh said in her tweet.

Earlier on Friday, the Delhi Police registered two FIRs against 66-year-old Brij Bhushan Singh. The first FIR was registered under the POCSO act and pertains to the complaint of the minor while the other FIR was registered in connection to the complaint filed by other wrestlers.
