New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: In what could be a positive news amid the surging coronavirus cases in India, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Sunday said that 2,231 COVID-19 patients, which is around 14.19 per cent, have been cured.

Addressing a press conference along with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the ICMR further said that the number of coronavirus cases are doubling in under four days in hotspots.

"We have done 3,86,791 tests so far. Yesterday 37,173 tests were done, out of these 29,287 tests were done in labs of ICMR network. 7,886 tested in private sector labs," ICMR official Dr Raman R Ganga Khedkar said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said that 54 other districts in 23 states and union territories (UTs) didn't report any cases in the last 14 days while adding that 1,334 new COVID-19 cases and 27 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 15,712 and deaths to 507 in India.

"Historical data across the world show that there is not a big percentage of asymptomatic persons testing COVID-19 positive. It's important for us to be aware of this challenge. High risk asymptomatic persons are part of sampling criteria. We test and monitor them," ANI quoted Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal as saying.

Agarwal also said that there are 755 dedicated hospitals and 1,389 dedicated health care centers in the country while adding that there will be no relaxation from April 20 for containment zones in hotspots.

The government may also impose even stricter lockdown measures after April 20 in such areas, Agarwal said.

"Cinema halls, shopping complexes, malls, religious places to remain closed till May 3," the Health Ministry official said while adding that selective relaxation will be given to non-containment zones in India after April 20 midnight.

"The co-chair of the task force are member of the Niti Aayog and the principal scientific advisor to the government. Besides them, AYUSH, ICMR, Department of Science and Technology, Biotechnology, CSIR, DRDO, DG Health Services and Drug Controller are also its members," Agarwal said.
