The cases of Covid 19 are once again on the rise across the country. In the past seven days, nearly 2,000 new Covid cases have been reported and now the number of people infected with the virus has surpassed the 3,000 mark.
According to the Union Ministry of Health, as of Saturday, the number of active Covid 19 cases has crossed 3,000 and reached 3,395, with Kerala reporting the highest number of cases at 1,336, followed by Maharashtra and Delhi. This is the first occasion in over two years that the number of active Covid cases in India has gone beyond 3,000.

As per the data released on Saturday, there have been four deaths in the last 24 hours—one each in Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. Maharashtra has recorded 467 cases, Delhi 375, Gujarat 265, Karnataka 234, West Bengal 205, Tamil Nadu 185 and Uttar Pradesh 117 cases.
On May 22, there were only 257 active cases in the country. By May 26, this number had risen to 1,010, and by Saturday, it had reached 3,395. According to the data, 685 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, along with four deaths.
According to the Worldometer Index, which tracks Covid 19 cases, the last time the number of active cases in India crossed 3,000 was on April 1, 2023, when the caseload reached 3,084.
Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav said that the central government was fully prepared to handle any situation. Speaking to a news agency, he stated that the central health and AYUSH ministries are fully alert. He assured that the situation is being closely monitored.
