Covid-19 In India: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday said that 306 new Covid-19 cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours, increasing the number of active cases to 7,121.

Three deaths from Kerala, two from Karnataka, and one from Maharashtra were recorded as a result of COVID-19 within the same time period. One of the deceased was a 43-year-old man with an immune system that was weak, while the other deaths were of older people with underlying respiratory and chronic illnesses.

India reported 324 new Covid-19 cases a day earlier, increasing the number of current cases to 6,815. On that day, three people died, one from Delhi, one from Jharkhand, and one from Kerala. Two of them were older people with long-term respiratory and other health issues, and one was a 44-year-old guy with a history of hypertension and hypothyroidism.

A slow increase of Covid-19 cases is now occurring in India, which is ascribed to novel variations such as LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and the recently discovered NB.1.8.1 subvariant.

Prof (Dr) Balram Bhargava, a former Secretary of the Department of Health Research and Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), has said that the appearance of the XFG variety represents a normal evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

He said that because fast molecular diagnostic technologies like Truenat are widely available, India is ready to identify and react to novel variations promptly.

The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) reports that 163 instances of the XFG mutation have been found lately nationwide.
