Former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday addressed the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) meeting in the Central Hall of Parliament House. Gandhi criticised the central government over a plethora of issues, including their ‘divisive’ policies. She said the saffron party hasn’t learned a lesson from the setback it faced in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls.
UPA chairperson also urged party workers to prepare for the upcoming assembly elections. She mentioned that elections will be held in four states in just a few months and the party should maintain the momentum it gained in the Lok Sabha polls, adding that the party workers should not be complacent or overconfident.
“The environment is in our favour, but we must work together with a sense of focus on our goals,” she said while addressing party MPs, as per Jagran.com.
At the very beginning, Gandhi expressed her anguish over the deadly landslide in Kerala. Sonia said that this devastation was shocking. Chiding Centre, she said people were losing their lives not only due to natural disasters but also in train accidents caused by mismanagement. A moment of silence was also observed during the meeting.
The Congress leader said she believed the Modi government would take a lesson from the blow it faced in Lok Sabha polls but instead, it continued with its policy of ‘dividing communities and spreading fear and hostility’.
