Ahmed requested permission from the CRPF to marry Minal Khan in 2023, She was a resident of Sialkot, Pakistan. But before the department made a decision on his plea, Ahmed and Khan were married on May 24, 2024, and their union was formally celebrated via video conference by clerics from Pakistan and India.

The case was made public earlier this week when India cancelled Pakistan nationals' visas in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, and Minal Khan was deported back to her homeland from Jammu.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on April 30 gave her last-minute protection from deportation. When Minal's lawyer told her of the court's ruling, she had already left Jammu for the Attari border.
