In a chilling update on the death of a Class 10 student of a prominent private school in Delhi, his father has alleged a prolonged humiliation by teachers.

Pradeep Patil, father of 16-year-old victim Shourya Patil, said that the tragedy took place after a year of mockery, mental harassment, and mistreatment.

Patil said that his son made repeated claims about being harassed and ill-treated. He added that the alleged harassment escalated each time his son raised concerns about the teachers' behaviour. He added that he and his wife reached out to the school, but no heed was paid. In fact, they claimed, the situation worsened even more thereafter.

On the day he died by suicide, Shourya was participating in a dance practice in the school and fell on stage. The father alleged that he was scolded and humiliated in front of other students.

Pradeep Patil claimed that when his son began crying, the teacher told him, "Cry as much as you want, it doesn’t matter to me."

The FIR, filed in the case, states that Shourya jumped from Platform 2 of Rajendra Place Metro Station on Tuesday. The police have found a purported suicide note from his school bag, which reportedly accused three teachers of driving him to the extreme step.

Pradeep Patil added, "Whenever we raised the matter, the school would dismiss it, saying he needed to focus more in class and that his Maths grades were weak."

Speaking about why they did not escalate the issue further despite the school's ignorance, Patil said he feared Sourya would be penalised. Pradeep said the family refrained from escalating the issue, fearing that the school might penalise Shourya. "At one point, they even threatened to issue him a Transfer Certificate," he added.
