Cyclone Ditwah Update: Heavy rainfall is likely to take place across southern states as Cyclone Ditwah, which grew out of a deep depression near Sri Lanka and formed over the Bay of Bengal on Thursday, is steadily tracking north-northwest and may move towards Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh.
The atmospheric system is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall till 30th November in southern states like Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Tamil Nadu on Friday and Saturday.

What Is Cyclone Ditwah
As per the information shared by the IMD on X, Cyclone Ditwah “with the speed of 8 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 2330 hrs IST of yesterday’s, the 27th November 2025 over the same region, near latitude 7.9°N and longitude 81.3°E, about 8 km northwest of Batticaloa (Sri Lanka), 80 km south of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 200 km north-northeast of Hambantota (Sri Lanka), 480 km south-southeast of Puducherry (India) and 580 km south-southeast of Chennai (India).”
Cyclone Ditwah is likely to make landfall between north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh between the evening of November 29 and the morning of November 30. However, the IMD has not yet clarified the positioning of the landfall.
Chennai Weather Update: Red Alert In Coastal Districts Of Tamil Nadu
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Chennai, with a red alert issued for the Delta and a few north coastal districts of Tamil Nadu on November 28 and 29. The IMD anticipates very heavy rain of 20 cm in 24 hours.
Kanyakumari, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Thoothukkudi, Tirunelveli districts of Tamil Nadu are on IMD's orange alert for heavy rains. Sivaganga, Tenkasi and Virudhunagar are on yellow alert on Saturday.

Cyclone Ditwah To Hit 5 States
In its latest press release, the weather department has predicted the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, stating, “Under the influence of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast, heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Tamil Nadu during 27th- 30th November with isolated extremely heavy falls on 28th & 29th November.”
-Yanam and Rayalaseema in coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall till 2 December.
-Kerala is expected to experience isolated extremely heavy rainfall on November 30, while heavy rainfall will occur on November 29.
-In Telenaga, the cyclone Ditwah will show impact on 30 November and 1 December, while South Interior Karnataka can brace for heavy rains on 29 November.
