Namma Metro Update: In a bid to modernise itself to meet the challenges of modern travel, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has sought assistance from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to develop an Integrated Data Management System (IDMS) to handle Operations and Maintenance (O&M).

In this regard, the DMRC has floated a tender for the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the IDMS for BMRCL. The last date for tender submission is November 28, and the tender process will open on December 1.

"Based on years of experience, DMRC has developed an IDMS, a software platform designed to cover maintenance functions of a Metro railway, specifically tailored for Operation and Maintenance assets. The system’s major modules cover preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and additional modules to facilitate routine maintenance and operations activities," a senior BMRCL official said, quoted Moneycontrol.

The official further added that the DMRC has extensive knowledge in this domain, with over 20 years of experience in operations and maintenance activities of the metro, which can prove to be an asset for the Bengaluru metro. Moreover, DMRC’s ability to develop a strong software base tailored to the requirements of the BMRCL can potentially augment the functionality of the metro.

“After interactions with DMRC, it agreed to suitably customise similar software for BMRCL, with overall responsibility assigned to DMRC,” he added.

According to the BMRCL official, the software development and system integration will be handled by the DMRC because of its domain expertise in the same, while the hardware components like servers and the network switches of the metro systems will remain with the authorities from BMRCL.

Bengaluru Metro, with 96 km of operational network, has been running since 2011. The Delhi Metro, on the other hand, spanning across 353 km, has been operational since 2002.
