Cyclone Hamoon, Tej Updates:  The Indian Meteorological Department on Wednesday said that Cyclone Hamoon's landfall process has commenced and it weakened into a cyclonic storm across the Bangladesh coast to the south of Chittagong with wind speed of 80 to 90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph.
"Landfall process has commenced. To weakened into a cyclonic storm and cross Bangladesh coast to the south of Chittagong within a few hours with wind speed of 80 to 90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph," IMD posted on X.

Earlier, the Met has said that "The severe cyclonic storm ‘Hamoon’ over Northeast Bay of Bengal lay centred at 2330 hours IST of 24th October about 420 km east-southeast of Digha (West Bengal), 150 km east-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 80 km south-southwest of Chittagong (Bangladesh)."

Meanwhile, Cyclone Tej has reached over coastal Yemen and weakened into Cyclonic Storm (CS) at 1130 IST on Tuesday. According to the weather department, the cyclone Tej will move further west-northwestwards and weaken into a depression during the next few hours. "It almost crossed the Yemen coast close to the south of Al-Ghaidah within a few hours as a Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph," added the IMD.

Meanwhile, the severe cyclonic storms are also likely to trigger light to moderate rainfall at most places in the northeastern states of Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya, as well as south Assam.

According to the weather department, Mizoram on October 24 and Tripura can anticipate heavy downpours. In the said regions the heavy rainfall will persist till October 25 too. However, the rain intensity will decrease by October 26.

“Light to moderate rainfall is very likely at many places with isolated heavy rainfall over Mizoram on October 25. Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places over Mizoram and Tripura on October 26,” the weather office said.

Additionally, South Assam and eastern Meghalaya are also expected to experience light to moderate rainfall on October 24-25. With this, coastal areas of Odisha will also expect light to moderate rainfall at most places on October 24.
