Cyclone Mocha: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings regarding a cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal from Saturday onwards.
The IMD said that a low pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal by May 8 and will further intensify into a depression around May 9. The IMD will share the details of the cyclone, named Mocha, after the formation of the low pressure.
The weather department has predicted squally weather with winds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, prevailing over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Andaman Sea, and over the Southeast Bay of Bengal from May 7.
Advisory For Fishermen
The IMD has also issued advisories to fishermen to not visit the sea site until May 11. The advisory was also issued for small ships, boats, trawlers, and maritime activities in the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
The administration has also urged fisherman who are working in the southeast Bay of Bengal to leave their current locations and return to the safer locations.
List Of States On Alert For Cyclone Mocha
- Odisha: Odisha Chief Minister Navin Patnaik chaired a high-level meeting after the weather department predicted a cyclonic storm forming over the Bay of Bengal. It also asked all state departments to be prepared to face the Mocha cyclone.
The government has also issued Yellow warning for rains along with thunderstorms for several districts including Balasore, Kendrapada, Cuttack, , Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Puri.
- Andhra Pradesh: Cyclone Mocha is likely to bring heavy rain to Andhra Pradesh. The authorities have also issued an orange alert in several parts of the state.
Andaman And Nicobar Islands: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands will likely receive moderate rainfall from May 8 to May 12 with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall till May 11 and scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall on May 10.
The MeT department has also predicted scattered thunderstorms with lightning over ‘NCAP and Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema’ for the next two to three days. States including Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are also on alert for cyclone Mocha.
