Cyclone Remal has started making landfall over the coast of West Bengal and Bangladesh, the India Meteorological Department said on Sunday. The IMD on Sunday said that the Cyclonic Storm Remal moved nearly northwards, with a speed of 110 kmph during the past 6 hours and lay centered at 10.30 PM today. Road traffic, flights and train movements have also been affected.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting and took stock of the situation. Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to concerned officials in view of the intensifying situation. He further assured that appropriate steps have been taken to avert any possible damage. Let's take a look at all the updates:
- Heavy rain and gusty winds lash Kolkata as Cyclone Remal arrives in Bengal. The landfall process has commenced over coastal areas of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal. According to the MeT officials, the cyclonic storm is likely to continue for four hours.
- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked people to stay home and stay safe. "Stay home and stay safe. We are there for you, today and always. This storm shall pass too," she wrote on X.
- The met department said, "The forward sector of wall cloud region is entering into land. The landfall process has commenced over coastal areas of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal. It will continue for the next 4 hours". Wind speeds are expected to range between 110 and 120 km per hour and gusts can reach up to 135 kmph.

- By 3 PM, the West Bengal government had evacuated around 1.10 lakh people from coastal and vulnerable areas and shifted them to cyclone shelters, schools, and colleges.
- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also took note of the probable changes in weather the cyclone can bring in the state and wrote on X, "Cyclone Remal can bring inclement weather in parts of Assam. We are taking several precautionary measures. NDRF & SDRF teams are on standby, control rooms are operational and we are deploying a whole of government approach to keep our citizens safe. Stay safe and please cooperate with your local administration."
- The Eastern and South Eastern railways cancelled some trains on routes to and from the coastal South and North 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur districts as a precautionary measure. The Eastern Railway suspended train services in the Sealdah South section and Barasat-Hasnabad section of Sealdah division from 11 pm on Sunday to 6 am on Monday, cancelling several EMU local trains, an official said, as quoted by PTI.
- According to an Airports Authority of India (AAI) official, a total of 394 flights — both international and domestic — will not operate during the flight suspension period.

- The 14 NDRF teams have been deployed to vulnerable areas of nine districts (Hooghly-1, Howrah-1, South 24 Parganas-3, North 24 Parganas-2, Purba Medinipur -2, Paschim Meddanipur-2, Kolkata-1, Murshidabad -1, Nadia-1) of West Bengal.
- Since the issuance of early warning from India Meteorological Department and NDRF teams have been made available to the state and district administration for evacuating people to safer places and cyclone shelters wherever required and sensitizing localities about the preventive measures.
