Haryana News: Dakshin Haryana Bijlee Vitran Nigam has deposited approximately Rs 150 crores in the bank accounts of nearly 41 lakh consumers. The amount was credited as interest on the advance security deposit (ASD) collected earlier by the discoms.
Advance Security Deposit (ASD) is the amount equal to two average billing cycles, which is charged from consumers at the time of isntalling a connection or increasing load capacity.
The Dakshin Haryana Bijlee Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has collected Rs 2,234 crore as advance deposits from the consumers, the Times of India reported. The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) instructed the discoms to review the advance security deposits collected from the consumers. The Electricity Corporation, then decided to pay interests on the security deposits.
The interest accrued by a consumer in a year should be adjusted accordingly in the bills by the discoms in the next financial year. If the discoms fail to do so, they will have to pay higher interest at 18 per cent for the delay in depositing the amount in the accounts of consumers.
“DHBVN has decided to pay interest at the rate of 6.75 per cent per annum on the advance security deposit (ASD) deposited by consumers,” said A Sreenivas, managing director of DHBVN and secretary of the Haryana Energy department. “This Rs 150.08 crore is interest received by all consumers on their security deposits,” he added.
The advance security deposit is collected by the HERC. After the successful collection of deposits from the consumers, the corporation will transfer the annual interest into the account.
